Martin Truex Jr. Foundation Partners with Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina During Race Week at Lowe’s Motor Speedway
MOORESVILLE, NC (May 1,2009) - The Martin Truex Jr. Foundation (MTJF) along with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and The Ryan Newman Foundation(RNF) will seek to end hunger in their local communities during race weeks at Lowe’s Motor Speedway (LMS) in May, 2009. The three organizations will collect canned goods, non-perishable food items and pet food at various locations during the Sprint All-Star week and the Coca-Cola 600 festivities.

The MTJF will be set up next to the Newman Foundation’s Pit Road Pets tent located on the Little’s property directly across from the main entrance at LMS on May 23 - 24 from Noon to 5 p.m. to collect the canned and pet food items. All fans who participate in the food drive will have the opportunity to register to win an ultimate fan basket filled with merchandise from both drivers and more.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to give back to our community during hard economic times,” said Truex Jr. “I urge all fans attending the race to bring a canned good or drop it off at one of our Mooresville locations. It may seem like a small donation, but it goes so far for our neighbors, friends and family in need.”

In conjunction with the collection drive being held at the LMS numerous Iredell County-based businesses will also participate in the project with collection sites from May 11-23. Pretzel Factory, North Carolina Auto Hall-Fame, blueharbor bank, SunTrust Bank, Brooklyn Boys Pizza, Dockside Deli, Simpson Racing Products, Victory Lanes, Memory Lane Museum and Lavendar Boutique will be accepting canned goods during normal business hours.

Participants can also drop off canned goods at the Martin Truex Jr, LLC office located on 344 Rolling Hills Road in Mooresville during their open house May 18-22. A drawing will be held at the end of the week for a prize package containing unique Truex Jr. merchandise for those who donated to the cause.

“As unemployment rates throughout our region have steadily increased, more and more people are turning to Second Harvest Food Bank for assistance,” said Kay Carter, On behalf of the hundreds of thousands of people in need in our 19 counties, we are truly grateful to the Martin Truex, Jr. Foundation and the entire NASCAR community for hosting this food drive. Every can and box collected will help feed someone in our region who is hungry.”
